When you wake up in the morning.

Waking up

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī aḥyānā baʿda mā amātanā wa ilayhi-n-nushūr
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after taking it, and to Him is the return.

As you lie down to sleep.

Before sleeping

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā
In Your name O Allah, I die and I live.

Before you begin eating.

Before eating

بِسْمِ اللَّه
Bismillāh
In the name of Allah.

If you forgot to say Bismillah at the start of a meal.

If you forgot to say Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ
Bismillāhi awwalahu wa ākhirahu
In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.

After finishing your meal.

After eating

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi-lladhī aṭʿamanī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah
Praise be to Allah who fed me this and provided it for me, without any power or strength on my part.

As you enter your home.

Entering the home

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
Bismillāhi walajnā, wa bismillāhi kharajnā, wa ʿalā-llāhi rabbinā tawakkalnā
In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.

Leaving the home

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalā-llāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Entering the bathroom

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina-l-khubuthi wa-l-khabāʾith
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil and from all evils.

Leaving the bathroom

غُفْرَانَكَ
Ghufrānak
I seek Your forgiveness.

When feeling anxious, sad, or overwhelmed.

In distress or worry

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Ḥasbunā-llāhu wa niʿma-l-wakīl
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
Source: Qur'an 3:173
In moments of worry, fear, or heavy heart.

Relieving anxiety

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Lā ilāha illā-llāhu-l-ʿaẓīmu-l-ḥalīm, lā ilāha illā-llāhu rabbu-l-ʿarshi-l-ʿaẓīm
There is no god but Allah, the Mighty, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the mighty Throne.

The chief supplication for seeking forgiveness.

Seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfār)

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allāhumma anta rabbī lā ilāha illā anta, khalaqtanī wa anā ʿabduk, wa anā ʿalā ʿahdika wa waʿdika ma-staṭaʿt, aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā ṣanaʿt, abūʾu laka bi-niʿmatika ʿalayya wa abūʾu bi-dhanbī, fa-ghfir lī fa-innahu lā yaghfiru-dh-dhunūba illā ant
O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshipped except You. You created me and I am Your slave. I keep Your covenant and my pledge to You as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me — for none forgives sins except You.

Repeat throughout the day.

Short istighfār

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullāha wa atūbu ilayh
I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance.
Say 3× in the morning and 3× in the evening.

Protection (morning & evening)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Bismillāhi-lladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa-smihi shayʾun fī-l-arḍi wa lā fī-s-samāʾ, wa huwa-s-samīʿu-l-ʿalīm
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm — and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Any time; especially after prayer.

For one's parents

رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Rabbi-rḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā
My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small.

When asking Allah for barakah and rizq.

For lawful provision

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allāhumma-kfinī bi-ḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmik, wa aghninī bi-faḍlika ʿamman siwāk
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, so I have no need for what You have forbidden, and enrich me by Your favour, so I have no need of anyone besides You.

Before studying or seeking knowledge.

For beneficial knowledge

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā
My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

Morning or before study.

For understanding and useful knowledge

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي، وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي، وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Allāhumma-nfaʿnī bimā ʿallamtanī, wa ʿallimnī mā yanfaʿunī, wa zidnī ʿilmā
O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, teach me what benefits me, and increase me in knowledge.
