The Prophet ﷺ was more generous than the wind that carries rain
The Prophet ﷺ never turned away someone asking, and he was most generous in Ramadan. This lesson gathers the hadith on generosity as an act of the whole life, not the occasional donation.
Generosity in Islam is not measured by the size of the gift but by its consistency, its cost to the giver, and the dignity of the receiver.
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most generous of people, and he was most generous of all in Ramadan when Jibril would meet him — and Jibril would meet him every night in Ramadan to review the Qur'an with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was more generous with good than the sent wind.”

The Prophet ﷺ was described by those closest to him as never having refused a request. In Ramadan his giving intensified. He handled other people's requests as though it were painful to withhold. The hadith on the upper and lower hand does not shame the receiver; it lifts the aspiration of the giver.
This is a striking prophetic claim. Classical commentators (Nawawi in Sharḥ Muslim) explain it two ways: as material blessing (barakah) placed by Allah in the remaining wealth, and as spiritual increase — honour, standing, community goodwill — that outweighs the monetary decrease. Both readings coexist.
Set up one automatic monthly ṣadaqah, however small, and one weekly cash gift you carry to hand out in person. Regularity is closer to prophetic generosity than an occasional grand gesture.
The Prophet ﷺ gave as if it hurt to withhold. What in your finances would need to change for that to be a fair description of you?
